Our students grow academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally through a variety of activities that encourage teamwork, creativity, leadership, and service. From athletics and music to faith-based service and after-school care, we strive to help every student feel connected, supported, and inspired.

Athletics

St. Mary is part of the Aurora Area Catholic League and we offer the opportunity for students in grades 5-8 to participate in basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, and soccer, helping students learn the value of hard work, perseverance, and respect for others. 

​Whether students are trying a sport for the first time or building on existing skills, athletics at St. Mary emphasize fun, community, and character. Our beautiful and spacious Fellowship Hall Gymnasium serves as home court for our athletic teams.

Extracurriculars​

Extracurricular activities allow students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and engage with peers outside of the traditional classroom setting.

​Band is currently offered as an enrichment opportunity for students in grades 4-8. Participation in band helps students build discipline, creativity, and collaboration while developing a lifelong appreciation for music.

We also offer additional extracurriculars throughout the school year. In the 2025-26 year, we offered a Wacky Science program for interested K-5 students.

Faith & Sacraments​

Faith is at the heart of everything we do, helping students build a strong foundation in their faith while deepening their relationship with God.
​Students are supported in their spiritual growth through:

• Sacramental preparation for First Communion, Reconciliation, and Confirmation
• All-school Mass weekly and on Holy Days of Obligation
• Adoration (Jr. High)
• Altar Serving (Grades 4-8)

• Daily prayer and faith-based learning integrated throughout the school day

St. Mary School is more than a school, it's a close-knit community where students, faculty, and families celebrate and connect at things like:

• School-wide celebrations and themed events, like our annual Walk-a-Thon
• Family-focused activities, like Grandparents Day, our Night Out With the Royals event, and special classroom events
• Traditions and special celebrations, like the student-led Living Rosary
• Spirit days throughout the year and during Catholic Schools Week

Service & Outreach

Rooted in our Catholic faith, St. Mary students and their families are encouraged to serve others and make a positive impact beyond the school walls and participate in both school-wide service opportunities and additional giving-back opportunities within their individual classrooms.

​By participating in service, students learn compassion, responsibility, and the importance of living their faith through action. Families are asked to fulfill service hours to support school activities during the school year.

Field Trips & Experiential Learning​

Field trips are an important extension of classroom learning at St. Mary. Students in grades K-8 participate in at least two field trips each school year, including:

• Educational and cultural experiences, like to the Paramount Theater in Aurora or Sandwich Opera House in Sandwich
• Faith-based outings, like the opportunity to attend mass with our Bishop at St. Raymond Cathedral
• Grade-level enrichment trips tied to curriculum, like to Hoover Outdoor Education Center or Woody's Orchard

These opportunities enhance learning while creating memorable experiences that students look forward to each year.

Aftercare Program

To support working families, St. Mary offers an Extended Day Program in a safe and nurturing environment. Supervised by members of our faculty, our program is offered daily (not on partial days or no-school days) from the end of the school day until 5:15 p.m., and includes opportunity for supervised homework as well as free play (outside when weather permits).

​Aftercare provides peace of mind for parents and a positive, familiar environment for students at the end of the school day.
