A Letter From Our Principal

Picture
As a St. Mary alum and someone who has spent more than 40 years in Catholic education, it's a true joy to serve the school that shaped my own faith and future. Every day, I see the same spirit of love, curiosity, and community that I experienced as a child walking these halls.

At St. Mary, we believe each child is a precious gift from God. Our mission is simple: to help students grow in faith, knowledge, and confidence. With dedicated teachers, strong academics, and a caring community, we work together to help every child become who God created them to be.

I would love to welcome you in person. Come visit us, meet our team, and experience the warmth and joy of the St. Mary family.

In Christ,
Sister Ann Brummel, Principal

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Student-to-teacher ratio?
The current student-to-teacher ratio at St. Mary School is about 16 to 1 on average. Our small class sizes allow for individualized instruction and group learning. Classes are also supported with classroom aide (elementary grades) and RTI coordinator (all grades) as needed.
Are scholarships and/or financial aid available?
Yes. Contact our Business Manager, Mrs. Angie Sterkel, at [email protected] or 630-552-3448 to learn more.
Do I need to be a registererd parishioner at St. Mary Parish to enroll my child?
No. A child can be enrolled at St. Mary School regardless of where his/her family lives and worships.

Do I need to be Catholic to enroll my child?
No. We do offer religion as part of the curriculum and attend weekly mass at St. Mary Parish, but children are not required to be Catholic to enroll.
Is there bus service?
Yes. Complimentary bus service is offered for families who live within PCUSD 88.
Are uniforms required?
Yes. All students must follow the uniform dress code. Uniforms can be purchased from our official vendor or standard uniform clothing found at major retailers. We also offer an annual used uniform sale where families can purchase gently used uniforms and school spirit wear.
Is there before and/or after care offered?
Yes. Before care is available daily from 7:00 – 7:45 a.m. at no cost. After care is available from 2:35 – 5:15 p.m. for an annual fee.
Are there any extracurricular activities offered?
Yes. Students in grades 5-8 can participate in volleyball, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, and track (offered based on number of students interested). Students in grades 4-8 can participate in band, which practices 2 days per week, for an additional fee. Throughout the year, we also offer additional extracurricular activities, like Wacky Science.
Do the students go on field trips?
Yes. Each grade goes on at least 2 field trips per school year for additional learning and enrichment.
Are service hours required?
Yes. Family volunteering and fundraising play a vital role in keeping St. Mary School thriving. Each family is asked to complete 10 volunteer hours during the school year.  We offer plenty of ways to fulfill your service hour requirements throughout the school year. There is no formal service hour requirement for students; however, service-related activities can be incorporated into individual classrooms.
Do students attend mass?
Yes. All students attend mass 1 day each week, as well as on holy days of obligation. All students also receive daily religious instruction so do not need to enroll in additional religious education/faith formation to receive their sacraments
WHAT ACCREDEDATIONS DOES st. mary school hold?
We are registered and recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education. We also hold accreditations from the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) and the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA). These accreditations affirm that St. Mary’s is a community where faith, learning, and service thrive together.
What support services Are available?
St. Mary School can accommodate most support services that are required based on a student’s 504 plan.
  • Reading and Math support is available for our students in grades K-8.
  • Students are identified through various assessments in consultation with the classroom teacher and parents.
  • Students needing additional support services are offered interventions to the child’s curriculum through the school’s instructional support team.
  • If appropriate academic gains are not being made, our RTI Coordinator will initiate and coordinate the necessary paperwork with Plano CUSD #88 for further testing. Testing for identifying speech and language difficulties or a learning disability is administered by Plano CUSD #88.
  • Plano CUSD #88 provides on-site speech and language services to our students.
